Just in time for 2015 (although, depends on where you are), we’re very excited to present the first beta of the new WhatPulse version 2.7. There are 2 major features and a few minor.

High DPI on Windows

Computers with very high resolutions/DPI are becoming the standard, but the client did not present itself properly on Windows. To fix this, we’ve had to dynamically resize everything inside the client (buttons, views, lists, etc, etc), which is one of the reason why proper Windows high resolution support took longer than the other operating systems.

Check it out and be critical of every interface element. 🙂

Types of Network Traffic

The client can measure your network traffic, which is currently used for per interface, application and country traffic for a while. But what about the types of traffic? How much does a certain network port use, or how much traffic do you use for your back-up service?

The descriptions of the types of traffic are dynamic and can change over time. If you want to help fill the database, tell us!

With the new page on the networking tab, you can see exactly how much traffic a network service is using. This is the first draft of that page, stay tuned for more updates of this page in the upcoming beta versions!

Misc Stuff

Besides these great new features, we’ve also done a lot of work on the local database connection. To keep it simple, we’ve done some database magic and cut the hard disk usage of the client in half!

Other changes are; a auto pulse option to pulse on every client start and new Advanced setting buttons to manually update your network GeoIP database and the new Network Port Descriptions database (this is for the types of traffic).

With the declining popularity and the upkeep needed for the Dynamic Images, we have decided to retire the service.

This does not mean we’ll take the images offline right away, but it does mean we are not updating the service to include new functionality, or update it to support newer browsers. It currently works fine with most, but there are a few scenarios where the editor does not work. This will continue to not work.

The images will be generated until April 1st, 2016 (no joke). After that they will stop updating and the rest of the service will be disabled.

We’re currently working on a new major feature, which will more than replace the Dynamic Images feature..stay tuned! 🙂

You can know use weekly statistics in your profile and/or Twitter message. Display how much you’ve typed, clicked, downloaded, uploaded or had uptime in the last week, along with the rank changes you had on those stats.

For easy use, the weekly stats have been added to the statistics dropdown when you’re editing your profile and twitter message; just the stat you want and the stat drops in your editor.

The Weekly Update archiving feature in the Premium Services make this possible. Check it out!

Per-Application & NumPad in the Keyboard Heat-map

Since WhatPulse 2.0, the client has had an awesome heat-map feature which could tell you how much you’ve used certain keys at a single glance. This picture was a global picture though, accounting for usage across all applications. From now on, premium users are able to generate a keyboard heat-map on a per application basis. Analyse whether your key mappings are efficient, or just fun to look at!

The case of the missing NumPad has been solved! It has been returned to the keyboard heat-map, so you can track your NumPad usage.

Key Combinations

How often do you use ctrl+s to save something? How often do you use ctrl+alt+delete because your computer has gone crazy? Or better yet, how often do you use self made combinations to do something on your computer? How efficient are you with key combinations? If any of those questions have crossed your mind, you can now answer them with WhatPulse 2.6!

‘Today’ Stats in Geek Window

Ever wondered how much you’ve typed today and didn’t want to bother with opening the client, browse to the input tab and check? Good news! You can now add ‘today’ stats labels to the Geek Window to show the amount of keys, clicks, download and upload you’ve done so far today. Helpful if you have set a daily goal.

New Communication Methods to Website

This may sound boring to most of you, but this will make sure the communication (pulses) between your client and our website is reliable and secure before actually pulsing. This means that pulses are always consistent and that your data is only sent to our website, nowhere else. Enough with the boring stuff and move on, it’s just that this is a major improvement and we’re proud of it! 😉

Here’s a small highlight reel to show our favourites: the real-time network graph has now the option to show the last 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. You can include beta versions in the updater. The input history chart now includes options for the last 12 and 24 hours. and Much More!

WhatPulse 2.5

There have been a lot of requests from users to be able to differentiate between your mouse buttons. Basically to see how dominant a mouse button is. We listened and integrated a ‘Mouse Button Heat-map’ into version 2.5! Of course that is not all, there are some other neat changes, like the ability to ignore network interface and a white W menu icon for the Mac OS X users with the black theme. Computer Specifications

Computers have always been around in your user profile, but with this update they have gotten their own spotlight. Starting today, each computer has it’s own page, displaying its statistics and specifications. This is an awesome way to zoom in on your stats on a per computer basis.

The specifications are currently limited to what the client detects, but we’re open to suggestions for additions in the future!

One thing to note is that this page is under control of your own privacy settings and has been turned off by default. You can turn this feature on for your computers in your Privacy Settings.

Teams in the Weekly Updates

The Weekly Updates have been a big hit (81% of you love them) and the most requested addition was weekly team updates. This has been in beta for a few weeks now, but as of today it is fully integrated.

Other Stuff
